The FSC reminds the public about exclusion of pre-existing conditions for health insurance and to be honest in personal condition disclosure
2019-10-15
The FSC indicates that it has occasionally received complaints about claim dispute between a health insurance policyholder and the insurer regarding pre-existing conditions, and likes to remind consumers that the purpose of insurance is to use the premiums paid by a policyholder to offset loss incurred by the policyholder in an insured event. A pre-existing condition is an illness of a policyholder that has existed before he or she purchased the insurance that it is not an unforeseen or force majeure event, under which, a policyholder is not entitled to make claim to offset his or her loss associated with the pre-existing condition.
